WEST CALDWELL, NJ - Caldwell scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to a 6-3 baseball victory over West Essex on Monday.
Mike Cavallo hit a two-run home run when the Chiefs (15-4) got three runs in their first at-bat. West Essex (9-10) closed to within 4-3 after 5 1/2 innings before Caldwell closed it out with two insurance runs in the home sixth inning.
Winning pitcher Bryce Bayard scattered seven hits, allowed just one earned run and issued one walk in throwing a complete game. Jon DeMattheis added a solo home run and Frank Gencarelli hit an RBI triple for Caldwell.
Zac Balz went 3-for-4 with a run scored for West Essex (9-10), which also got two singles and an RBI from Shane Smith.
