NEWARK, NJ - A seventh-inning rally fell a run short as the Caldwell baseball team suffered a 3-2 loss to Newark East Side on Wednesday.
East Side (10-3) took a 3-0 lead into the top of the seventh before the Chiefs scored twice. Caldwell (9-3) had just four hits in the game, two of them by John Housel. Jon DeMattheis; two-run double plated both of Caldwell's runs.
Losing pitcher Ryan Sanderson turned in a strong effort, going six innings and allowing only four hits and two earned runs. Sanderson struck out three and walked four.
