NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - After trailing by three runs after five innings, the West Essex baseball team rallied to send the game into extra innings and defeated Newark East Side, 9-8, with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday.

Vin Salvatoriello went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored for West Essex (13-10), which scored two runs in the sixth and then a run each in the seventh and eighth innings. Zac Balz went 2-for-5 wih a double and three RBI.

Ian McLaughlin earned the victory with three scoreless innings of relief. He struck out four, allowed two hits and did not walk a batter.
