New York Times Best-Selling Author Bernhard Schlink Credits: Bernhard Schlink

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - The Green Brook Country Club Book Club will welcome New York Times best-selling author Bernhard Schlink for a luncheon, author presentation, Q & A, Meet and Greet and book signing on Wednesday, July 19. This event kicks off at 11:30 is open to club members and non-members. Schlink will discuss his latest book "The Woman on the Stairs."

In a museum far from home a man stumbles onto a painting of a woman for whom he once loved, long ago, risked everything and who then mysteriously disappeared from his life.

As a young lawyer, the nameless protagonist of The Woman on the Stairs became entangled in the affairs of three people mired in a complex and destructive relationship. An artist, the woman whose portrait he had painted, and her husband became a triangle that drew the lawyer deeper and deeper into their tangled web. Now, encountering the painting that triggered it all, the lawyer must reconcile his past and present selves;
Perception about art, the art world, and the business world are examined, as well as the philosophy of possession. The Woman on the Stairs, demonstrates that the life we dream, the one we live, and the choices we make coil together on the continuum of human experience. Existence is not finite, perhaps not even in death. Even the inanimate evolves. “Paintings don’t come to rest and neither do people."
