NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - The West Essex boys basketball team erased a two-point deficit after three quarters and held on to defeat Verona, 47-45, on Thursday.

Oliver Ortman pumped in 23 points for West Essex, which built a six-point halftime lead before Verona rallied to overtake the Knights, 34-32, before West Essex came back.

Brett Reo finished with eight points for West Essex (1-2), which is off until next Tuesday, when the Knights host Cedar Grove at 2:30 p.m.
