CALDWELL, NJ - The Caldwell University softball team has been ranked 21st in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll of the season. The Cougars, who appeared in the poll all season, finished the year with a record of 37-14-1 after advancing to their eighth consecutive NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.

Caldwell, coached by Dean Johnson, won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season with a league record of 23-3. The success carried into the postseason, as the Cougars won four straight games to capture the CACC Tournament championship, their sixth title overall and second in three seasons. At the East Region Tournament, Caldwell advanced to the final game before falling to No. 7 Adelphi University.

The Cougars were led by senior Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda), who received Daktronics All-American honorable mention to become the program’s third two-time All-American. She also earned her second Capital One Academic All-American honor, making the first team. Fellow senior Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) set the school record for career hits (268) and runs (214).

Extra Time

It was close to 70 minutes into the match and I had to go to the bathroom.  Badly.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
