Caldwell U Women's Basketball Hosts Conference Tourney Quarterfinal Saturday

CALDWELL, NJ – The Caldwell University women's basketball team will host Goldey-Beacom College in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars (18-10 overall) earned the top seed in the CACC North Division with a 15-4 conference record.

The seeds for the CACC Tournament were not completed until the final regular-season game, with Caldwell defeating Bloomfield College in a thrilling, double-overtime victory, 87-82 Tuesday night in the Newman Center. Both the Cougars and Bloomfield finished with identical 15-4 conference records to share the CACC North Division title. Caldwell receives the top seed from the North in the CACC Tournament due to a season sweep of the Bears.

This is the fifth year in a row that the Cougars will open the CACC Tournament at home and the eighth consecutive season that Caldwell has qualified for the postseason. Since 1992, the Cougars are 11-8 in the CACC quarterfinals, including 4-0 the past four seasons. Last year, Caldwell advanced to the finals of the CACC Tournament for the second straight season, losing to Bloomfield in the title game.

The Lightning (13-15 overall) enter the CACC Tournament as the fourth seed in the South after posting a 12-7 record in league play. Earlier this season, the Cougars outlasted Goldey-Beacom, 96-92 in overtime on Feb. 14 in Wilmington, Del.

The quarterfinal winners will meet in the semifinals on Friday, Mar. 6 at Philadelphia University. The highest remaining seed will play at 12:00 p.m., with the second semifinal beginning at 2:00 p.m. The championship game is Saturday, Mar. 7 at 4:00 p.m., also at Philadelphia, which serves as the host for both the men’s and women’s conference tournaments this year. The CACC Tournament champion receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.

Admission for Saturday’s quarterfinal game at Caldwell is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children, students and seniors. The first 100 Caldwell University students are free, compliments of Student Activities.
