CALDWELL, NJ – Caldwell University senior Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) was named the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Softball Player of the Week, the organization announced this week. Calderon was selected the MVP of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament after leading the Cougars to the championship last week.

Calderon went 3-for-10 at the plate in four games at the CACC Tournament, but two of those hits were instrumental in leading Caldwell to its second CACC title in three years. With the Cougars trailing Wilmington 3-1 in the third inning of Friday’s semifinal game, Calderon stepped up and hit a long, three-run home run down the left field line for a 4-3 lead. Caldwell went on to win that game 4-3 and advance to Saturday’s championship game against Dominican. The Cougars were up 2-1 in the fourth when Calderon did it again, blasting another three-run homer to put the game out of reach.

A four-time all-CACC honoree, Calderon is batting .393 with 53 hits, 13 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 36 RBIs this season. She ranks second in the CACC in slugging percentage (.674), third in homers and doubles, fifth in RBIs and sixth in average. Calderon, who is a two-time all-Region performer and a 2013 All-American, holds the school record for RBIs (186) and is tied for first at Caldwell with 64 career doubles.

Calderon and the Cougars (34-12-1) are the top-seeded team at the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.
