CALDWELL, NJ —The Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education confirmed at its meeting on Monday that a swastika and other obscenities were painted on the property at Lincoln Elementary School on Thursday.

Superintendent of Schools James Heinegg confirmed the vandalism on Monday when Jonathan Lace, a Caldwell resident and Democratic candidate for Caldwell Borough Council, asked what educational and preventative measures the district intends to take in response to the incident.

Heinegg responded that the district reported the incident to Caldwell police and that school officials have reached out to both Congregation Agudath Israel and the Anti-Defamation League. He also said that Holocaust education is currently offered at every grade level within the Caldwell-West Caldwell district.
