ESSEX COUNTY, NJ -- Two baseball players from Caldwell and one from West Orange have been named to the Liberty Division First Team of the Super Essex Conference for 2019 as selected by the league's coaches.
Ryan Sanderson and Jake Fierro of Caldwell and Melachi Jones of West Orange were cited as first-teamers this spring.
Sanderson, a junior pitcher, led the Chiefs in innings pitched (50 1/3) and had the lowest earned-run average (1.95) on the pitching staff. He struck out 51 batters. Fierro, a senior first baseman, led Caldwell with 19 runs batted in and had a .351 batting average. Jones, a sophomore left-hander, was the top pitcher on West Orange's staff, and his achievements included a complete-game four-hitter to defeat Newark Academy.
Sophomore infielder Aidan Healey of West Orange and senior infielder Mike Maida of Caldwell gained recognition on the division's second team.
Frank Gencarelli and Nick Bergamotto of Caldwell and Chris Spagnuolo and Antonio Elfani of West Orange received honorable mention from the league.
