FAIRFIELD, NJ – A 72-year-old contractor faces aggravated assault charges after he tried to choke a customer who refused to pay him for a partially completed home improvement project, police said.
Durim Adili, of Little Falls, wanted an unspecified dollar amount from the Little Falls Road resident Sunday, although the contractor’s work was not completed, according to Police Chief Anthony Manna.
All available authorities were dispatched to the home at approximately 9:49 a.m. to find Adili and the victim already separated, Manna said.
The investigation revealed that Adili wanted the victim to pay for some of the construction work that was being done on the victim’s home in advance of it being completed. When told no, Adili began to choke the victim with his hands, according to Manna, leaving ligature marks on the victim’s throat that the officers noticed.
Adili was placed under arrest. He was then transported to an area hospital with chest pains. He remained in the hospital under police guard, police said.
Efforts to reach Adili were unsuccessful. A woman who identified herself as his wife declined comment.
