FAIRFIELD, NJ — A resident of Horseneck Road addressed the mayor and council on Monday about a problem with a neighbor’s dog running loose and defecating on her property. Donna McCaffrey said she has tried to speak to the owner about the problem, but the owner would not listen.

Eventually, McCaffrey had to take the owner to court, but she said that the fine was so minimal that the owner is still allowing the dog to wander without a leash along Hollywood Avenue and Horseneck Road, which are both busy roads.

McCaffrey asked the mayor and council to revisit the township’s dog ordinances. Fairfield Attorney Dennis Gavin checked the ordinance and agreed with McCaffrey that the ordinance needs to be revisited.

There was a mention of the fine only being $10 or $25. McCaffrey was advised to take dated pictures of the dog and get back to Joseph Catenaro, township business administrator.
