NORTH CALDWELL, NJ -- Five players from the West Essex football team have been named to the 2019 All-Essex Group 1-3 football first team, and two Knights players were chosen for the second team, as selected by coaches in the county.
Senior tackle Bardhyl Gashi, junior running back Chris Bell, junior linebacker Vincent Panzarino, senior defensive back Nick Ciaglia and senior punter Tyler Logan of the Knights all were named to the first team.
Gashi anchored both the offensive and defensive lines for the Knights and made 11 sacks on the defensive side. He was also the state heavyweight runner-up last wrestling season. Bell led West Essex with 1,352 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Panzarino took part in 116 tackles, including five stops behind the line. Ciaglia made six interceptions and a fumble recovery, and, as the Knights' quarterback, rushed for 14 TDs and passed for nine TDs. Logan punted for over 35 yards per kick and, as a placekicker, hit two field goals and 48 out of 52 extra-point tries.
Senior lineman Vito Benevenga of West Essex was chosen for the second team offense, and senior lineman Sammy Carsillo of the Knights was picked for the second team defense.
West Essex went 9-3 this season, reaching the Section 2, Group 3 championship game before losing to Parsippany Hills.
