FAIRFIELD, NJ - Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen and Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck will tour the Unimatic Manufacturing Corporation Superfund site and the Caldwell Trucking Co. in Fairfield today.

The Superfund program is a federal program designed to protect communities from hazardous waste. EPA officials tour and examine waste sites to make sure waste removal is up to code. It allows for the government to implement waste removal protocols and cite parties responsible for any hazardous waste. Parties found to be in violation of EPA standards may be forced to reimburse the government for the cleanup and inspection process, in addition to cleaning any waste.

Frelinghuysen and Encke will also tour the Mansfield Trail Dump in Byram Township, the Rockaway Borough Wellfield in Rockaway Borough and the Rockaway Township Wells in Rockaway Township.
