WEST CALDWELL, NJ — The James Caldwell girls basketball team is now 5-11 on the season after defeating Barringer, 46-21, on the Chiefs’ home court on Tuesday.
Taylor Stafford had a game-high 14 points for Caldwell on Saturday and Phoebe Bledsoe scored seven, but it was not enough to stop Mount St. Dominic, which defeated the Chiefs, 43-27.
When the Essex County Tournament was seeded on Monday night, the Mount took the No. 19 seed whereas the Chiefs were tabbed as No. 23. The first two rounds of the tournament are scheduled for Feb. 4 and Feb. 9.
Caldwell enters the tournament in a first-round game against No. 22 Newark Collegiate. The winner will take on No. 11 Montclair-Kimberley in the second round. Should they defeat both teams, the Chiefs will play No. 6 Montclair in the quarterfinals on Feb. 18.
Newark Tech took the top seed for the tournament, followed by University, West Orange, East Orange, Bloomfield, Montclair, Millburn, Orange, Columbia and Nutley to round out the Top 10. Semifinals will take place at Weequahic on Feb. 22 and the final will be played at Essex County College on Feb. 25.
