NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - After falling far behind at the outset, the West Essex girls lacrosse team turned in a better performance in the second half of a 13-6 loss to Northern Highlands on opening day Wednesday.

Allie Weinstein finished with two goals and one assist for West Essex, which outscored Northern Highlands, 4-1, in the second half. Lindsay Fusco and Jordyn Thies each netted two goals for the Lady Knights.

Julia Russo chipped in with a pair of assists, and Megan Boekel also helped out on a goal for West Essex, which is back in action at West Morris in Long Valley Friday at 4 p.m.
