Hanover Township to Welcome Wegmans on July 23

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ - One of the largest shopping and dining experiences in the country is ready to open its doors to Morris County when Wegmans comes to Hanover Township on July 23

This is the ninth store to open in New Jersey, with 92 overall stores in six states. The origin of Wegmans dates back to 1916 when brothers Walter and John Wegman worked at their parents’ grocery store in Rochester, NY.

Peddling produce from a pushcart moved on to opening Rochester Fruit and Vegetable Company a year later, the foundation of Wegmans Food Markets. Later, they expanded to general groceries and bakery operations along with refrigerated display windows and vaporized water sprays to keep produce fresh.

The first suburban Wegmans opened in 1941 and by 1965, 22 stores were open and operating. In 1981, Robert Wegman, chairman, was awarded the Food Marketing Institute’s highest membership honor—the Sydney Rabb Award—and named “best in customer service” by Fortune magazine in 1987.

The company continued to grow and innovate, hiring executive chefs, giving back to the community and partnering with global entities, opening full-service restaurants in stores, operating organic farms and being named the No. 1 company to work for by Fortune in 2005.

Wegmans' entry into New Jersey came in 2005 with a store opening in Princeton, and later this month Hanover Township will join the family. This is the third store opening for manager Tim Lockwood and he recently told TAPinto.net that the "community of Hanover Township has been incredibly welcoming and great to work with.”

In addition, the store has employed 500 people, most of whom are local.

“We are community minded, this is our community," said Lockwood. "Supporting local farmers and sourcing local produce meats and products brings  sustainability to the brand, freshness uses less fuel."

The company has also donated $110 million in scholarships and support of local food pantries.

“We live by values and high standards are most important along with service, quality and commitment to low prices,” said Lockwood.

When asked about the existing shopping options, he explained that every month nearly 500 products are assessed and that Wegmans is comparable to competitors.

The Hanover Township store promises to be a unique shopping experience. It is the first New Jersey location to include a Burger Bar. There is also an in-store pizza oven that cooks pizzas in minutes at 800 degrees.

Wegmans in known for its organic salad bar; restaurant-quality, take-home-ready entrees and sides; its own “The Buzz Coffee Shop"; floral shop; housewares; and more than 50,000 products, including more than 3,000 organic selections.

Four generations of Wegmans have steered the brand to become one of the largest privately held companies in the United States.

The opening in Hanover Township is set for July 23. Many activities are planned for that day, including some surprises and an opportunity to sign up for Wegmans' Shoppers Club membership. For more information click here.

Hate Trumps Love

September 19, 2017

This letter is in response to Karen Egert's letter, "President Trump has abandoned the country," dated September 11, 2017.

I find it interesting that Karen only saw the violence from the 'alt-right,' over the course of one day, but did not see, or refuses to acknowledge all the violence from the alt-left' over the past several years - from the occupy ...

U.S. Air Traffic Control Isn’t Working; Here's How to Fix it

September 13, 2017

For over 30 years the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has tried – and failed –to modernize America’s woefully dysfunctional air traffic control system (ATC). It is time to get ATC out from under the thumbs of federal bureaucrats and partisan politicians, and create a completely new structure that will get U.S. air traffic moving.

American ATC is stuck in the 1950s.

I am worried that my genetic Neanderthal variant might be embarrassingly high.

Given my personality, this might not seem an unreasonable fear.  But I really don’t want it proven without a doubt by a rigorous analysis of my DNA.  That is why I am reluctant to subject myself to the many personal genetic testing services that are on the market today.
