MONTCLAIR, NJ - Patrick Coyle scored three goals to lead West Essex to its first ice hockey victory of the season, 7-4, over Nutley on Monday.
Coyle scored twice in the first period, when West Essex opened a 3-1 lead. Alex Laglia's goal with 1:22 left in the period extended the lead to 3-1.
In the second period, Connor Hapward scored on a power play with 12:21 left for a 4-1 lead, and Coyle's third goal of the game extended the advantage to 5-1 with just two seconds left with an assist by Sammy Friedman.
Friedman and Laglia, who finished with two goals, scored in the third period. Hannah Podvey finished with 26 goals for West Essex.
