WEST CALDWELL, NJ - James Caldwell High School, West Caldwell, received an honor from its peers and coaches of the Super Essex Conference this week when it was voted one of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association's (NJSIAA’s) Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2012-2013 school year. Only four schools will be awarded sportsmanship banners for the 2012-2013 school year and will receive the prestigious Sportsmanship Award banner at the December NJSIAA business meeting.
One of the major requirements to receive the award is for the school athletic program to be disqualification free, meaning that not one student athlete or coach was disqualified from any athletic event held during last school year. The schools receiving the Sportsmanship Awards were ejection and disqualification free for all three sports seasons in 2012-2013.
Schools receiving the Sportsmanship Award are voted upon by their peers.
"This is a great honor and the result of hard work on the part of our coaches, student/athletes, and parents,” said Athletic Director Rich Porfido. “The recognition of our athletes, coaches and fans is a reflection of the sportsmanship we strive to achieve in our athletic programs."
The NJSIAA comprises 433 accredited, public, private and parochial high schools in the state.
