James Caldwell High School to Compete in District 13 Wrestling Tournament at West Essex High School Saturday


CALDWELL, NJ — James Caldwell High School's top wrestlers will compete in the District 13 Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, including top seeds like senior Dean Caravela at 152 lbs., with a 25-3 record; sophomore Gerald Jones at 132 lbs., with an 18-2 record; and senior Ryan Schaffer at 170 lbs., with a 23-5 record.

Hosted by West Essex High School, teams from James Caldwell, East Orange, Paterson Kennedy, Glen Ridge, Passaic Valley and Orange High Schools will compete in the preliminary round beginning at 9 a.m. on Feb. 20.

James Caldwell High School Wrestling Coach Gary Garamella said the team and coaching staff have worked hard to get to this point and look forward to what's ahead.

The matches will be held in three sessions, with the public invited to attend. Quarter-Finals will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Semi-Finals will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the final session will include Consolations at 3 p.m. and Finals at 5 p.m.

Anthony Minnella, WEHS Director of Athletics, said everything is in place to hold the tournament. 

“We are very excited to be able to host the District 13 Wrestling Championships again here at West Essex," said Minnella. "We have a fantastic staff and we expect a great tournament."

Ticket prices per session are $5, with a Student/Senior Citizen rate of $3. An all-day pass is available for $12, or the Student/Senior citizen rate of $6.
