MONTCLAIR, NJ — James Caldwell High School (JCHS) senior Haley Askling was honored at the Montclair Art Museum on Thursday for winning a Gold Key in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for a paper mache sculpture she made her junior year in Draw Paint, entitled "Bloom."
Askling, who earlier this month was named a JCHS ShopRite Star in the arts category, also received honorable mentions for two of her Graphic Design pieces.
“This is an immense honor and great accomplishment,” said JCHS art teacher Jane Romm, who added that the Gold Key is the highest honor.
At the regional level, more than 20 jurors—artists, curators, and educators—participated in a series of panels, reviewing over 4,200 submissions from 1,462 students.
Askling’s work and that of other Gold Key Award Winners will be exhibited at the Montclair Art Museum through March 26 before proceeding to the national competition.
