James Caldwell to Compete in District 9 Wrestling Tournament; Three Wrestlers Earn Top Seed


PHILLIPSBURG, NJ — When the NJSIAA District 9 wrestling tournament begins on Saturday, the James Caldwell High School varsity wrestling team will join Phillipsburg, Lyndhurst/No. Arlington, West Morris Mendham, Bloomfield, Montclair, Hackettstown, Glen Ridge and Barringer at Phillipsburg High School.

The top three wrestlers in each district will advance to regions next week.

The first round for this district will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with the final round currently set for 4:30 p.m. at Phillipsburg High School.

Seven James Caldwell wrestlers were seeded in the top 3 of their respective weight classes, including Alex Jones, Gerald Jones and Christian Dalla Riva No. 1; Kyle Schaffer and John Murphy at No. 2; and Joseph Carola and Dan Fano at No. 3.

Darren Jones, Grade 9: 106 pounds – No. 4 seed in his weight class – 21-8 record

Ricardo Caamano, Grade 9: 113 pounds – No. 5 seed in his weight class – 5-13 record

Mark DeAngelis, Grade 11: 120 pounds – No. 7 seed in his weight class – 13-7 record

Joseph Carola, Grade 12: 126 pounds – No. 3 seed in his weight class – 15-8 record

Alex Jones, Grade 9: 132 pounds – No. 1 seed in his weight class – 23-2 record

Joseph Jenkins, Grade 9: 138 pounds – No. 6 seed in his weight class – 8-14 record

Dan Fano, Grade 12: 145 pounds – No. 3 seed in his weight class – 11-16 record

Gerald Jones, Grade 11: 152 pounds – No. 1 seed in his weight class – 20-6 record

Joseph Tamimi, Grade 12: 160 pounds – No. 9 seed in his weight class – 3-18 record

Kyle Schaffer, Grade 11: 170 pounds – No. 2 seed in his weight class – 17-6 record

Christian Dalla Riva, Grade 12: 182 pounds – No. 1 seed in his weight class – 27-4 record
