NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — As the close of the calendar year approaches and the West Essex Regional Board of Education prepares for its reorganization meeting on Jan. 6, kind words were offered for departing board members Judith Amorim Dias and Anthony Prinzo during the last meeting of 2019.
Board President Cindy Egan led her colleagues in thanking Amorim-Dias and Prinzo for their expertise, commitment and passion for the students and staff of the district.
“I thank you both so much, on behalf of my colleagues, for your contributions and tremendous support you have shown,” said Egan. “You will be missed.”
Superintendent of Schools, Damion Macioci added that the district “is in a great place now” and that a lot of that is “due to [their] commitment as board members.”
Prinzo stated that it was his honor to serve as a member of the board of education, and Amorim-Dias took the opportunity to thank the administrators for their continued effort to enhance the district.
Amorim-Dias also noted that when she began her first term, there were limited Advance Placement (AP) courses offered and that opportunities for AP courses have greatly expanded since then. She remarked that there were 280 AP exams taken district-wide during her first year on the board compared to the 900 exams that were taken in June 2019. Amorim-Dias specifically thanked Director of Curriculum and Instruction Ryan Gupta for his initiatives.
