FAIRFIELD, NJ — As certified public accountants are being urged this week to press for an extension of the federal tax filing deadlines, Bederson LLP Accountants and Advisors of Fairfield and West Orange have curtailed their office hours as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
Bederson’s revised office hours for now will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in its Fairfield office and 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in its West Orange office.
In other news that affects accounting firms and taxpayers all over, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) are urging CPAs to email Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin requesting that the filing deadline for federal tax returns be extended to July 15.
Earlier this week, income tax payment deadlines for returns with a due date of April 15 were extended until July 15 for up to $1 million of their 2019 tax due. As of now, the filing deadline for tax returns remains April 15.
Returns still have to be submitted by April 15, but the NJCPA and AICPA are pushing to have that deadline extended until July 15, as well.
Susan Wernick, chief marketing officer at Bederson, said that circumstances dictated by the nationwide restrictions in place in response to the virus threat have been evolving over the last week. She stressed that servicing Bederson’s clients while also being mindful of their safety is paramount to the company.
