LIVINGSTON, NJ — Fifteen family businesses from around the state were recently honored at the 25th Anniversary NJ Family Business of the Year Awards Luncheon held at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston, hosted by the Rothman Institute in conjunction with sponsors Sobel & Co., LLC, Coughlin Duffy LLP, PNC Bank, Crystal Plaza, NJ Business and NJBIA.
During a ceremony on Oct. 25, the businesses were recognized for their dedication to their individual industries, family values, vision, and contribution to their communities as well as the New Jersey economy. Additionally, Governor Chris Christie’s office officially proclaimed Oct. 25, 2017 as “Family Business Day.”
The event began with a “trade show/meet and greet,” where honorees were encouraged to display company materials, meet other honorees, and mingle with invited members of the business community. Dr. James Almeida, Associate Dean, Silberman College of Business (SCB) along with Timur Pakay, executive director of the Rothman Institute, welcomed a crowd of more than 190 guests.
They turned the stage over to Al Titone, NJ District Director of the Small Business Administration, who presented the keynote speech. Titone provided insight on the family business while sharing his personal experiences helping these special companies through his work with the SBA.
The anniversary gave the Rothman Institute the opportunity to invite several people back to the event who have been a part of the Rothman Institute’s success over the years.
Jim Barrood, former director of the Rothman Institute, presented Leo Rogers, former Interim Dean, SCB, and Institute Director with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Rogers is currently the facilitator of the Peer Group Mentoring portion of the Family Business Forum.
