FAIRFIELD, NJ — Firefighters from North Caldwell, West Caldwell and Verona assisted the Fairfield Fire Department in extinguishing a residential structure fire on Sunday night, according to Fairfield police.
At approximately 8:09 p.m., the Fairfield Police Department received a report of a fire on Mayhew Drive. All police units, along with the Fairfield Fire Department, were dispatched to the location, police said.
First arriving officers determined that all of the home’s occupants were out of the building and safe. They observed a heavy smoke condition and flames coming out of the home.
One Fairfield firefighter was treated at the scene by the West Essex First Aid Squad for being light-headed and dizzy. Preliminary investigation indicates that the fire started in a downstairs bedroom.
