A short time later, he noticed the same vehicle being operated by a different individual, with Mourad in the passenger seat.  Mourad was allegedly not wearing his seatbelt. While the officer was behind the vehicle, he allegedly noticed that the vehicle’s trunk was not properly secured. Concerned that something might fly out of the trunk and strike another motor vehicle, he initiated a motor vehicle stop.

During the course of the roadside stop, the officer allegedly uncovered the fact that Mourad did not possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle, which was why he was not operating the car. The officer asked Mourad to exit the vehicle and when he did, he allegedly observed a Xanax tablet on the seat when Mourad got up. Mourad allegedly did not have a prescription to possess the Xanax so he was placed under arrest. Further investigation allegedly revealed the discovery of suspected heroin and Suboxone films.

In addition to the criminal charges, Mourad was also charged with being an unlicensed driver and for being in possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. He was released on his own recognizance pending an August 6, 2014 court date in the Superior Court in Newark, N.J.

The charges against Mourad are merely allegations.  He is presumed innocent until he either pleads guilty or is proven guilty in a court of law.
