ROBBINSVILLE, NJ - The NJSIAA has released the group and section classifications for the upcoming fall sports seasons. These classifications are based off of each school or school districts total enrollment.
These groupings will also determine seeding for state tournaments, with the exception of football in the fall, ice hockey and wrestling in the winter and lacrosse in the spring.
According to the NJSIAA, West Essex High School has an enrollment of 812 while James Caldwell currently has 604 students in attendance for the upcoming year.
Both schools have been sectioned into North II for the upcoming football season, although West Essex High School will compete in North II, Group III while James Caldwell High School has been sectioned into North II, Group II.
The West Essex and James Caldwell girls soccer teams will compete in the same division this season, as both have been classified into North II, Group II. However, in boy’s soccer, West Essex High School has been classified into North I, Group III while James Caldwell has been sectioned into North II, Group II.
Both high schools will find themselves in direct competition with one another in boys and girls cross country and have been classified into North II, Group II.
West Essex and James Caldwell are both in Group II in girls volleyball, which is not divided up by North, Central and South as the majority of other sports are.
For the upcoming field hockey season, West Essex will compete in North I, Group II, while James Caldwell High School does not currently have a field hockey team.
