NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - West Essex Middle School seventh graders learned about the importance of safety in a special visit from the North Caldwell Police last week.

The department's Police Chief Mark Deuer, Detective Sergeant Bill Texas and other officers visited the middle school last week to welcome seventh graders to the school and tell them know that the police are their friends.

"Our goal is to keep all of you safe," Deuer told the students. The chief went on to say that it is very important for the students to follow instructions during safety drills and lockdowns at the school. He also told the seventh graders to not be afraid to approach a police officer if they have a problem. "If you ever need anything, you can stop and talk to us yourself."

West Essex Middle School Assistant Principal Lisa Tamburri told students to be smart and look for an adult in the middle school if they have any kind of problem and ask them for help.

The problem is that in my deluded head, I can see actually see myself standing atop the podium.  I am wrapped in a puffy designer ski coat with a huge piece of bling slung around my neck ...
