"Our goal is to keep all of you safe," Deuer told the students. The chief went on to say that it is very important for the students to follow instructions during safety drills and lockdowns at the school. He also told the seventh graders to not be afraid to approach a police officer if they have a problem. "If you ever need anything, you can stop and talk to us yourself."

West Essex Middle School Assistant Principal Lisa Tamburri told students to be smart and look for an adult in the middle school if they have any kind of problem and ask them for help.
