WEST CALDWELL, NJ — A car struck a deer in the area of 147 Clinton Road at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday, causing minor damage to the car but no injury to the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, according to West Caldwell police.
“Please use caution when driving, especially during the early morning hours, as it is deer season and they are on the move during that time,” said West Caldwell Police Chief Gerard Paris.
Police said the deer involved was found lying down on the front property of 147 Clinton Road.
The deer’s injuries were severe and it was not expected to survive, police said. As per policy, the officers at the scene euthanized the deer by discharging a frangible bullet from their service weapon.
