NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - Four players from West Essex' successful softball team have been named to the 2017 All-Super Essex Conference American Division first team.

West Essex finished with a 22-6 record and was runner-up in the Essex County Tournament. Sami Huetter, Alexa Vardiman, Julia Vardiman and Lilly James all were accorded first-team all-conference honors.

Huetter had a 17-4 record as a pitcher with a 1.03 earned-run average and 147 strikeouts in 149 innings. She walked only 33 batters. Alexa Vardiman batted .382 with a team-high 12 doubles and 29 runs batted in. Julia Vardiman batted .393 with a team-high four home runs, 19 RBI and 24 runs scored, James contributed five doubles and 12 RBI.

West Essex also garnered two second-team selections: Amanda Garofalo, who scored 26 runs and batted .306, and Bridget Betley, who won four of five pitching decisions with a 1.09 ERA. Madison Gemma and Rachel Rodriguez were both named to the SEC Honorable Mention list.
