ROSELAND, NJ — Aaron Klaff, a rising fourth grader at Lester C. Noecker School, was named the new Honorary Mayor of the Year by the Roseland mayor and council on Tuesday night.
Honorary Mayor Klaff helped Roseland Mayor Duthie call the public meeting to order and read the roll call. Duthie also asked Klaff to lead the residents in the salute to the flag and congratulated him on a job well done.
Some of honorary Klaff's duties as the Honorary Mayor of the Year will include handing out the awards at the 36th Annual Run for the Roses on Sept. 8, the lighting of the bonfire on Friday, Oct. 5, the lighting of the Menorah on Dec. 2 and leading the Christmas Tree Countdown on Dec. 7.
He will also throw out the first pitch at Little League opening day, although council members joked that Klaff should get some practice in if he wants to match the great arm of outgoing Honorary Mayor Cate Freda.
