ROSELAND, NJ - Mayor John Duthie and the Borough of Roseland Council honored the boy’s 5th and 6th grade fall recreation soccer team at the council meeting Tuesday.
The team won the Junior League Co-Championship with Cedar Grove as sponsored by the West Essex Youth Sports Alliance. The boys shook hands with the mayor. They were given commemorative trophies and pictures were taken.
Duthie read from a resolution that praised the boys for their hard work, determination and teamwork. The resolution noted the history of soccer as stemming from ancient civilizations. Duthie also congratulated the coaches and parents involved in the program for their continued support and hard work.
“The children of Roseland are its future,” Duthie said.
Essex County surrogate Theodore Stephens, who was at the meeting to make a presentation on guardianship, also praised the affair for its communal value.
“It’s always great to see people come together and celebrate the accomplishments of the children,” he said.
