Roseland Library Announces Upcoming Events

ROSELAND, NJ — The Roseland Free Public Library is offering the following upcoming events:

Lego Club for Kids

Join the library for a free-build on Thursday, March 1 at 4 p.m.

Sign Up for E-News

Guided Meditation for Adults

Choose from two different sessions on Thursday, March 1 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Looking Ahead: Adult Paint Night

Pencilworks Studio will conduct an Adult Paint Night on Friday, March 2, starting at 6 p.m. at the library. Pre-registration is required. There will be a $20 materials fee and tickets are available at the Circulation Desk. Space is limited, so reserve ASAP.

Looking Ahead: Fundraiser Theater Trip

On Saturday, March 24, the Friends of the Roseland Free Public Library will host a fundraiser bus trip to Lambertville, NJ to see Beehive: The '60s Musical at the New Music Mountain Theatre. The bus will depart from Roseland Library at 1 p.m., the show begins at 3 p.m. (lasts for 1 hour and 45 minutes including intermission), and the bus will return to Roseland Library around 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $59 per person and cover transportation, show ticket and snacks on the bus. Call 973-226-8636 to RSVP. NOTE: THE LIBRARY NEEDS A MINIMUM OF 40 ATTENDANTS TO KEEP THE PRICE AT $59 PER PERSON.

This musical celebrates the spirit of 1960s America through music, fashion, and the major issues of the day, as told from the perspective of six different young women who came of age during this tumultuous era. Call 973-226-8636 for more information.

Adult Yoga Wednesdays:

Weekly adult yoga classes with Taryn and Kristin are held every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. RSVP is recommended but not required.

Teen Robotics:

The library invites middle-and high-school students to program football-player robots every Wednesday through Feb. 7 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Call to RSVP.

Winter T’ai Chi Chih:

Accredited T’ai Chi Chih instructor Lee Bergman returns for Winter T’ai Chi Chih on Tuesdays through March 20 (make-up day, if needed, will be on March 27). The beginner class starts at 9:30 a.m., and the more advanced class starts at 10:30 a.m. Cost is $77 for all 11 weeks. Book Babies:

Kids ages 2 and under can enjoy a special story time of their own every Tuesday and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

Preschool Story Time & Craft:

Regular Preschool Story Time & Craft takes place on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m., where kids in preschool are invited to come listen to stories and work on crafts.

Scott’s Solutions Computer Help every Friday

Library assistant Scott Bergenfeld is available to show participants the basics of Microsoft Word, Excel, and other tech resources any Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Learn how to safely and effectively navigate social media; create resume templates, letters and spreadsheets; utilize valuable cell phone, iPad, and Kindle features, such as calendars and more. No RSVP needed. This is drop-in instruction, not a formal class.

NEW: Hotspots Available for Borrowing

Mobile Hotspots are now available for patrons to borrow, Available to patrons 18 or older with a valid driver's license and Roseland Free Public Library card in good standing. Each hotspot provides Internet access for up to 10 devices. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, and the loan period is 14 days. There will be a $5 per day late fee.

Magazines through RBDigital:

Roseland Library cardholders can choose from 100 magazine titles to receive right in their inbox through RBDigital (formerly Zinio). Look for the RBDigital icon on the bottom of the homepage at www.roselandpubliclibrary.org.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten:

Local parents/guardians are encouraged to read 1,000 books with their child before kindergarten at the Roseland Public Library. There is no set begin or end date for this program. Here are the steps:

  1. Register at the circulation desk and get the “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” packet.
  2. Start logging books on paper or on the "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" app on iTunes or for android devices.

  3. Bring the log to the library upon each milestone (50, 100, 200 books, etc.) to receive an award
  4. Any child who reaches 1,000 books will have his/her picture posted on the BCCLS (Bergen County Cooperative Library System) website (with parent/guardian permission of course) and receive a special invitation to a BCCS-wide party.
