Roseland Priest Enjoys Life at The Cliffs at Eagle Rock

Roseland's Blessed Sacraments' favorite Priest finds the perfect home!

New Jersey’s Priest Finds the Perfect Home at The Cliffs at Eagle Rock

WEST ORANGE, NJ — If you were to look up old newspaper articles in local New Jersey papers in 1987, you would have learned how Bayonne native Rev. Frank McNulty was perhaps the most famous priest in the entire U.S. The reason is because he was selected to address Pope John Paul II in Miami on behalf of the 53,000 Roman Catholic priests in this country.

That should tell you a lot about how special Father Frank is! What may be surprising to learn is that in his later years, after pastoring the Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland, NJ, the Priest who gave the welcoming address to the Pope on behalf of all the priests in the U.S. in 2012 has chosen to spend his twilight years at a community known for its Baptist roots!

But, that is just part of the delight of someone who has a history of enjoying a more progressive approach to living in Community.

McNulty was born in Bayonne, NJ, where he attended the public Grammar Schools. His family eventually moved to Roselle, NJ where he graduated from Roselle High School. Following high school, Frank attended Seton Hall Preparatory School, and went on to attend Seton Hall University and the Immaculate Conception Seminary in Mahwah for six years.

He proceeded to attend the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and was ordained in 1952 at the Newark Cathedral in Newark, NJ. He was assigned to St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City, where he taught for nine years. McNulty continued his studies and went on to receive a Doctorate of Theology Degree at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

Following that achievement, he returned to Mahwah and taught Ethics to seminarians for 18 years, after which he became pastor of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland, NJ for nine years. He then pastored St. Teresa’s Church in Summit, NJ.

During his many decades of service, his most cherished memory is meeting and speaking with Pope John Paul during the Papal Visit in Florida.

After serving several communities for many years, McNulty retired and resided at St. Aloysius Retirement Community in Caldwell, NJ before deciding to become a member of The Cliffs Family.

Today, Rev. Frank enjoys the company of his new family and conducts mass on special occasions, and will be giving his first homily to the board this September. He is frequently visited by many former colleagues, church members, family members and friends. During his down time, McNulty enjoys watching Seton Hall Basketball because it reminds him of his days as their official Chaplin.

The Cliffs at Eagle Rock is a non-profit Assisted Living Community in West Orange, NJ. For a glimpse of its campus, visit or call 973-660-0011 for further information about residency.

In fact, it hasn’t been mentioned since the Season Five finale when Jon Snow reveals this discovery to Sam Tarly. Jon has cared about little more than the war between the living and ...
