SOMERSET, NJ — The Hospital of the Year award, which is distributed annually at the NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes Awards and honors hospitals making extraordinary strides and exceptional achievements in healthcare, was recently presented to Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC).

Stephen Zieniewicz, president and chief executive officer, said SBMC was “honored to receive this prestigious recognition” and accepted the award on behalf of the hospital’s physicians, nurses and the entire SBMC team, who he said “dedicate themselves to [the] patients and their families.”

According to SBMC, which is a flagship of RWJBarnabas Health, the hospital is focused on providing safe, high-quality, culturally competent care to its patients and their families. The center also supports a mission of academic excellence by providing leading-edge research and clinical trials and teaching the next generation of physicians and health care providers. In addition, SBMC is dedicated to serving and investing in its community.

"As we look forward to the opening of the Cooperman Family Pavilion in September, we continue to expand and transform the services and technology being offered to meet the diverse health care needs of our community,” said Zieniewicz. “Saint Barnabas Medical Center remains committed to providing compassionate care, healthcare excellence and superior service to our patients and their families. Each day, we are inspired by our patients, the true healthcare heroes, particularly our tiny micronates, our burn survivors and our kidney transplant donors.”

As a teaching, tertiary-and quaternary-care medical center, SBMC offers the highest degree of services to patients throughout New Jersey, according to a press release distributed by the hospital. Some of the center’s nationally recognized services include New Jersey’s only certified burn center; the nation’s eighth-largest renal and pancreas transplant program; a nationally ranked Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; a world-class cardiac and cardiac surgery program performing minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR); a comprehensive stroke center offering the most advanced CT imaging in the state; comprehensive cancer programs and services in affiliation with the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, a National Cancer Institute-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center; one of the largest Radiation Oncology programs in New Jersey offering CyberKnife; and extensive services in robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
