FAIRFIELD, NJ — Following a 9-1-1 call reporting a house fire on Big Piece Road at approximately 3:42 p.m. on Wednesday, the Fairfield Police Department found a heavy smoke condition coming from the garage area. The homeowner reported to the officers that all of the occupants were out of the home, according to police.
The Fairfield Fire Department responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire. While most of the fire and water damage to the home was contained to the garage area, there was smoke throughout the house, according to police.
“The fire department did a phenomenal job to quickly contain and extinguish the fire before the whole home became involved,” said Fairfield Police Chief Anthony G. Manna.
Also assisting at the scene were firefighters from the North Caldwell and West Caldwell Fire Departments as well as ambulances from Atlantic Ambulance and the West Essex First Aid Squad. According to police, the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau.
