FAIRFIELD, NJ — Sgt. Robert Sanger recently retired from the Fairfield Police Department after a 26-year career, including 20 years in Fairfield.

Sanger began his career with the North Bergen Police Department in 1994, and was hired in Fairfield in 2000. Sanger had been the department’s accreditation manager since 2012 and was promoted to the rank of sergeant earlier this year.

In a post on its Facebook site, the Fairfield Police Department said of Sanger:

“Rob was our captain for the Special Olympics New Jersey Plane Pull team, where the goal is to pull a 93,000-pound plane 12 feet as fast as possible. As captain, he has been instrumental in helping to raise over $100,000 since ‘Fairfield’s Finest’ began back in 2002. We are the only team to ever come in first place in all three categories in the same year. We recorded the fastest pull time of 6.96 seconds, lowest combined weight of 1,292 pounds, and most fundraising money of $14,654, which was all done in 2018.
