Six West Essex Area Young Adults Selected for Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir

MILLBURN, NJ — Nearly 20 Essex County singer/dancers between the ages of 15 and 22 were recently selected to join the award-winning Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir for the 2016-2017 season.

Among the West Essex area residents selected were:

  • Kate Glennon, Giulia Russo and Will Taylor of Caldwell;
  • Paige Wasserman of North Caldwell;
  • Hunter Halliwell of West Caldwell; and
  • Madelin Morales of Fairfield.

“This talented touring troupe allows Paper Mill Playhouse to bring art to the people, while its participants receive professional training by industry professionals,” stated Mark Hoebee, Paper Mill Playhouse Producing Artistic Director. “The award-winning Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir is a wonderful opportunity for students to perform at impressive venues and share their talents with thousands of New Jersey residents.”

Students selected to be part of this group will have the opportunity to fine-tune their craft with free, intensive instruction. The Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir runs until June and rehearses on Sunday evenings at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Downtown Millburn. 

Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark Hoebee, Producing Artistic Director and Todd Schmidt, Managing Director), recipient of the 2016 Regional Theatre Tony Award, announced the 80 young adults that will be part of the tuition-free, audition-based, exhibition show choir that stems from Paper Mill Playhouse’s extensive Arts Education and Outreach programs. 

The Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir, sponsored by Overlook Medical Center/Atlantic Healthcare, act as ambassadors for Paper Mill Playhouse with an array of performance opportunities throughout the community and beyond. 

Over the last four seasons, the Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir has performed for more than 350,000 people at prestigious venues including: Lincoln Center, Sun Arena in Trenton, Mayo Center in Morristown; Bergen PAC in Englewood; Paper Mill Playhouse; Kean University in Union; and SOPAC in South Orange. The choir was featured on tour with New Jersey Ballet’s, Ballet on Broadway program and in Vocal Ovation: A Show Choir Extravaganza

The show choir is led by a professional staff of artists including: Shayne Austin Miller (Director), Matt Lowy (Music Director), Charles Santoro (Associate Music Director), Anthony Fania (Dance Director) and Peter Newes (Company Manager). New Jersey Governor Phillip D. Murphy signed Executive Order No.1 on Monday ordering the flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of New Jersey to be flown at half-staff to recognize and mourn the passing of the victims in Parkland, FL.

The order is for all state offices, agencies and municipalities, including schools for Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Notice of Budget Meeting for Borough of North Caldwell

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — The mayor and council of the Borough of North Caldwell will hold a Budget Meeting and Capital Budget Meeting on Tuesday, March 6, at 6 p.m. for discussion on the 2018 Municipal Budget and 2018 Capital Budget.  

This meeting will be held in the Municipal Building, 141 Gould Avenue in North Caldwell.  Action May Be Taken.
