NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - West Essex built a 6-1 lead after three innings and went on to a 7-3 softball victory over Newark Academy on Monday.

Alexa Vardiman went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a run scored, and winning pitcher Bridget Betley knocked in two runs with two doubles for the Lady Knights (12-3).

Betley struck out eight batters in seven innings against Newark Academy, which got seven hits against her. Rachel Rodriguez had an RBI single and Amanda Garofalo singled once and scored two runs for West Essex.
