WEST ORANGE, NJ — A silver 2016 Mercedes Benz that was reported stolen from an Essex Fells resident was involved in a four-vehicle crash on Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange last week.

According to West Orange Police, two unidentified drivers were racing in two stolen Mercedes Benzes when the crash occurred, but they eluded capture after a late-night chase.

One of the victims in the crash was taken to Saint Barnabas Medical Center with minor injuries, the police report states.

The speeding vehicles were spotted on May 5 around midnight by an Essex County Sheriff’s Officer on Pleasant Valley Way. Police said authorities had already been notified by Verona police that two cars were racing on Lakeside Avenue, heading toward West Orange.

The Mercedes Benz stolen out of Essex Fells remained at the scene after the crash. The driver fled on foot, and was last spotted on Whitman Street, the report states.
