NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — Following the first annual Run for North Caldwell 5K run/walk and color run hosted by the North Caldwell Recreation Foundation (NCRF) on Saturday morning, the borough celebrated its annual end-of-summer picnic at the community pool, and the cool and cloudy weather did not deter residents from taking their last summer swim.

Samantha O’Neill, North Caldwell Recreation Program Director, said up to 500 people typically attend the event, which is open to the public as well as pool members.

To help celebrate the end of summer, the event featured music by Chris Anthony Segarra of Professional Entertainment for All Occasions, a free yoga class by Indigo Yoga, ceramic painting by the Color Room, face painting by Lorissa O’Shaughnessy, a 50/50 raffle and Duck Race by the North Caldwell Cub and Boy Scouts, a candy hunt and water balloon games.

Members of the North Caldwell Fire Department also joined in the celebration, which was plentiful with hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, popcorn, snow cones and sausage sandwiches by Primo.

“The picnic is a very good community event,” said O’Neill. “It brings everyone together for one final summer hurrah.”

North Caldwell Mayor Joseph Alessi said that this annual activity is a great event for the community and also noted that more than 700 people participated in the morning’s 5K run and one-mile color run/walk to help improve North Caldwell’s athletic fields and recreation facilities.

According to the NCRF, more than 250 people participated in the Run for North Caldwell and more than 500 participated in the North Caldwell Color Mile.

“[The picnic] a great way to end summer and start a new school year,” said Councilman Joshua Raymond. “It caps off a great day of the 5K and Color Runs.”
