WEST CALDWELL, NJ — Two Newark men were arrested after an incident early Sunday morning in which surveillance video revealed an attempted break-in of a vehicle on Woodrow Place.

According to West Caldwell police, just before 2 a.m. Sunday, headquarters received a call from a resident who observed two males wandering back and forth between properties in the area of Westover Avenue.  Officers responded and found the individuals in question. 

While investigating the suspicious males, headquarters received an additional call from a resident on Woodrow Place reporting two males on video attempting to break into their parked vehicle.  Officers responded and viewed the video confirming the attempted burglary and also confirmed that the identity of the actors was the same as the individuals being investigated on Westover Avenue.

Nasir Johnson and Sharrod Morris, both 20, both of Newark, were taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. Both were charged with criminal attempt and hindering apprehension for providing false information.  They were later transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility where they are awaiting a detention hearing.
