NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — The University Women of West Essex (UWWE) recently awarded five college scholarships to deserving women, which is the central aim of UWWE.
For many years, the UWWE has presented scholarships to area high school students, as well as to mature women returning to college.
Scholarships were awarded to two West Essex High School graduates: Samantha Freda, who will be attending Sacred Heart University and plans to be a physician assistant; and Sara Kalb, who will be attending the University of Vermont and will pursue a career as environmental engineer working to develop clean technology.
Two graduates of James Caldwell High School were also recognized with scholarships: Giana De Meo, who will be attending the University of Florida and has a strong interest in the NASA program; and Sabrina Szalay, who will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology and hopes to be a dietitian.
The 2018 UWWE Mature Woman’s Scholarship was given to Laudemia Lafalaise of West Orange, who attends Caldwell University.
Since its inception, the UWWE has awarded many scholarships through funds raised from its fellowship activities and donated by members. The UWWE welcomes new members to be a part of this caring community of women who support each other, are life-long learners, have fun together and raise funds for college scholarships.
