WEST CALDWELL, NJ — Deerfield Road residents in West Caldwell notified police at about 3:27 a.m. on Thursday morning that a suspicious male had approached their home and attempted to steal their car. The suspect has been described but not yet located, according to police.

An investigation between the West Caldwell police and neighboring departments revealed that there were 21 vehicles burglarized in the area, including several in which unlocked cars were entered and rummaged through. Residents affected included those on Deerfield Road, Runnymede Road, Beechwood Road, Sunnie Terrace and Dawson Drive, according to police.

One resident caught the suspect on camera, revealing a black male wearing a bandana around his neck, a glove on one hand and a backpack, as he approaches the home and looks around with what appears to be the light from his cell phone. Photos from that video are attached above.
