NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — West Essex Regional High School (WEHS) is sponsoring and hosting its fourth annual Intergenerational Prom on Thursday, April 6, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the main gym. The theme for this year’s prom is “A Knight in Paradise.”
The Intergenerational Prom is a school-initiated outreach event focused on integrating the senior community with the school community. By hosting the event, WEHS is providing a venue for students to give back to previous generations who have provided lifelong support to WEHS.
Senior citizens from North Caldwell, Fairfield, Essex Fells, Roseland, Caldwell and West Caldwell are invited to enjoy a festive evening of dinner, dancing, and entertainment with WEHS students, faculty, administration, and other dignitaries.
This memorable occasion is made possible with donations from both community and school organizations, as well as local merchants.
DJ Tim Hughes, a WEHS alumnus, of Shughes Entertainment will provide entertainment for the event. The school’s band, choir, and dance team also will be performing.
Joan Koteras, a Fairfield resident since 1959, said that she and her friends look forward to this event each year and always have a good time. Koteras reminisced on a moment last year when a group of high school girls approached her and asked her to teach them how to do the jitterbug. It was a special moment, she said.
This will be the third year Koteras and her friends will attend the event.
Liv Solomon, a junior at WEHS, also remembers last year’s prom.
“I think it was a great experience to be able to see all the senior citizens having a good time with us,” she said. “My grandma and I had a great time.”
