NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - The Masquers of West Essex will perform "Midsummer/Jersey" Oct. 24-26 at 7 p.m. on the stage of the West Essex High School Auditorium.

The family-friendly show combines William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and MTV’s “Jersey Shore.”  Midsummer/Jersey is the hilarious high-octane re-telling of Shakespeare's “A Midsummer Night's Dream” set on the boardwalk of a seaside town in modern-day New Jersey. The story revolves around the impending marriage of the Governor of New Jersey, the love affairs of four beach-bound high school crushes, a lively crew of fairies and the staff of the local beauty salon (run by Patti Quince and Stylist Nikki Bottom.)The night takes a magical turn when Oberon and the impish Puck arrive on the scene armed with a powerful love potion and a desire for mischief making. With several weddings and the acting careers of six beauticians hanging in the balance, the lovers take to the boardwalk, backed by pop music and an iPhone-obsessed wood sprite.

Performances will be Thursday, October 24, Friday, October 25, and Saturday, October 26 at 7 p.m.  at the West Essex High School Auditorium. Three performances have been scheduled this year (in hopes to make up for being washed out and rescheduled last year due to Hurricane Sandy.) Tickets are $8; $5 students and seniors. Extra Time

It was close to 70 minutes into the match and I had to go to the bathroom.  Badly.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
