NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - The top-seeded West Essex baseball team will play Pascack Valley in the semifinal round of the Section 1, Group 3 state tournament on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in North Caldwell.

The Knights (20-1)  routed Wayne Hills, 11-1, in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, when pitcher David Kolesar ran his record to 6-0 with five innings of four-hit ball and Frank Lagreca knocked in four runs. Legreca leads the team in doubles.

West Essex opened the tournament with a 6-1 victory over Teaneck. Ian McLaughlin (7-1) was the winning pitcher, throwing five innings of two-hit ball. Vincent Panzarino hit a three-run homer in that victory.

Max Ruvo leads West Essex with four home runs, and his brother Ben Ruvo, Matt Cesare, Tyler Behrle and Tyler Sorrentono are some of the other potent bats in the lineup.

Pascack Valley (16-9) defeated Sparta, 8-6, in the quarterfinals.
