ORADELL, NJ - The West Essex boys track team won its third straight Section 1, Group 3 championship, and the West Essex girls track team finished second, when the NJSIAA sectional meets were held last weekend in Bergen County.
Senior Drew Lepre won four gold medals for the Knights, with victories in the 110-meter hurdles (14.81) and 400-meter hurdles (55.22) and the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. West Essex won the 4x100 relay in 44.33, with Michael Keller, Lepre, Liam Fost, Rani Abdulaziz, Lou Colombrita, Anthony Steets, Jake Siciliano and Matthew Chung running the race.
The West Essex team of Steets, Keller, Lepre, Fost, Siciliano, Sameeh Zakkour and Chung took the 4x400 relay in 3:21.51. The West Essex boys track team finished with 80 total points.
The West Essex girls had a total of 87 points, second behind sectional champion Northern Highlands' total of 110. Reanda Richards won four gold medals, Hailey Blum two and Julia Geiger one. Richards finished first in the 400-meter race (56.05), the 100-meter hurdles (14.59) and the 400-meter hurdles (59.54), as well as the 4x400 meter relay. Blum was the 100-meter winner in 12.49 and also ran in the 4x400 relay. Geiger's 5-2 distance in the high jump was the best in the meet.
West Essex winning time of 3:56.06 in the 4x400 meter relay included Gabriela Karch, Alexia Perez, Nina Ward, Brianna Convertino and Jenna Chan in addition to Richards and Blum.
