WEST ORANGE, NJ - On New Year's Day, West Orange lost an old friend -- St. Mark’s Episcopal Church -- to fire.

While many long-standing West Orange residents may know the history of the Church, many do not.

Today, TAP into West Orange is honoring St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with a beautiful video tribute created by Town Historian Joseph Fagan. The video showcases the important historic significance of the loss of St. Mark's using video footage from the fire and vintage photos, according to Fagan.

"The loss of St. Mark's is a devastating loss in terms of West Orange history," said Fagan. "It has been a familiar landmark which has stood at the entrance to town for nearly two centuries. The church was built with brownstone quarried from West Orange and the church's steeple and bell tower would be the same as recognizable to Civil War veterans."

Anyone with memories or photos of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is invited to share them on the TAP into West Orange Facebook page.
